Dendritic (or branching) aggregate of native copper, Las Minerale Pit, Rocklands, Cloncurry district, NW Queensland.
Native copper is naturally occurring copper metal. Even though it very high grade (95% plus copper), it is difficult to treat, as it is malleable and does not crush like other parts of a copper ore body such as the primary sulphide. Naturally occurring native copper was one of the first metals identified, as early civilizations developed thousands of years ago in the Middle East.
